Spicy & Sweet Popcorn (Masala Popcorn)

The perfect summer bite- spicy, sweet, and salty! Every time we would spend a day in the park, my mom would make her famous masala popcorn. The entire bag of popcorn would be done in minutes!

Popcorn is a healthy and quick snack for kids and adults alike! You can always adjust the amount of red chili powder and sugar according to your taste.

Recipe: makes 4 servings

Ingredients:

Popcorn:

3 tbsp Oil

1/2 tsp Salt

1/2 cup Popcorn Kernels

Masala:

4 tbsp Oil

1/8 tsp Salt

3/4 tsp Red Chili Powder

1/2 tsp Turmeric

3/4 tsp Granulated Sugar

Salt to taste

Method:

1. In a steel pot warm up the 3 tbsp of oil at medium heat. To the oil add the salt and the popcorn kernels. Stir the kernels so that they are evenly coated with oil and salt.

2. Cover the pot with a small opening to let out the steam (this is very important, otherwise your popcorn will be soggy).

3. The popcorn with start popping slowly at first and then quicker. When the popping slows down significantly move the pot off the heat quickly!

4. Let the popcorn cool down a little. Add oil to the top of the popcorn.

5. Then add salt, red chili powder, turmeric, and granulated sugar to the popcorn. Make sure to mix! You may need a little more salt according to your taste.

Enjoy!!
